Geoff Myers was the co-ownerof that very famous motorcycle emporium; Russell Motors in Clapham Junction, South London, and their stock of parts had reached legendary status. Geoff also started his own company, Geoff Myers Classic Motorcycles, and his loss to us all will be huge, as his type of knowledge and experience is irreplaceable.

He moved to the South Coast from London to Bexhill on Sea and started a whole new company. This he started on his own, and it grew on to be very well known. He was a very comprehensive supplier of new, used & NOS parts to both the trade and to private customers. His customers came from all over the world and he sold parts for most of the AMC products like of bikes.

I was there one day at the counter of Russell Motors when a car owner arrived and parked outside of the main entrance. The car owner came in to the shop to ask about some parts. Geoff told him we only sell motorcycle parts but not car parts. The car owner countered with him, "but have you got these parts for my Vauxhall?" Dumb founded we both looked at the car owner as he may have thought Geoff must have been trying to get out of selling him what he wanted. I can see why some times he was a tad frustrated with some of his customers.

I visited Russell motors for the first time in 1969, and when i worked at Gus Kuhn Motors, they had a company van that travelled around the local dealers , drive by that very well known local racer Ted Iflred.

He rebuilt a lot of my bikes for me, and his engineering, on motorcycle engines & gearbox was astounding. He would always come up with a solution to any problem that I encountered & he must have known just about every one in the motorcycle trade, both before and after the British motorcycle industry went into its terminal decline. He dealt with those in the industry when the bikes were being made so he did know better than a lot of us about their good & not so good points that made up the whole machine.

The last time I saw Geoff was when I met him at Pease Pottage services, at junction 10 of the M23 motorway, and we met fairly early and he left me to go & get a drink. Pat & I always regret that we never went with him, to sit and talk over a hot cup of tea, but then hindsight is 20/20 vision. Little did I know that would be the last time i would talk and ever see him again, which still haunts me to this day?

To say he will be missed is like saying the sun will not shine any more, which for many of his classic bike owners his loss will be felt for many a year to come. I do truly wish that I did not have to write this, but this task has now fallen to me, and feel so deeply that I have lost such an amazing and truly amazing man. While we are sad for the loss of our dear friend Geoff we are grateful for having known him and his memory will live on fondly in our hearts.
